Privacy Policy for WebSum — AI Blog Summaries
Last updated: 4 October 2026 · Published by six9dev
What data we collect
- Articles you ask us to summarise. When you click Summarise (or open the panel with "Summarise automatically" turned on), WebSum sends the article's address, title, author, text and the addresses of its images to our server.
- Your account. If you sign in with Google we receive your name and email address. If you don't sign in, we create an anonymous guest ID.
- Usage. How many summaries you used each day, and the AI processing cost, to enforce your daily allowance.
- Payments (paid plans only). Payments are handled by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status; we never see your card number.
WebSum recognises articles on the pages you visit to show its Summarise button. That check runs entirely in your browser; nothing is sent until you ask for a summary.
How data is stored
- On your device: your WebSum settings (synced between your own devices by Chrome), your sign-in session, and your last 50 summaries.
- On our server (hosted by Supabase): your account, daily usage, and summaries of articles.
How data is used
Only to write summaries, keep you signed in, apply your plan's daily allowance, and bill paid plans. A summary of an article is stored without any information about you and reused when someone else summarises the same article.
Third-party services
- Anthropic writes the summaries from the article you send.
- Supabase hosts our server, database and sign-in.
- Google provides "Continue with Google" sign-in and Chrome settings sync.
- Stripe processes payments for paid plans.
Data sharing
We don't sell your data, show ads, or use it for anything unrelated to summarising articles. Data is shared only with the service providers above, only so they can provide their part of WebSum.
Data retention and deletion
Summaries kept on your device are removed when you uninstall WebSum. Your account, usage history and subscription records are kept while your account exists. Email us to delete your account and everything linked to it.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change we'll update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
